A wide range of opportunities are available to reimagine existing vessels, potentially saving time and cost, versus a newbuild project. Beyond those practicalities, the allure, authenticity and even provenance of select commercial or navy ships can be a magnet for those who prefer to start with a tangible object, and shape it, versus the abstraction of starting from drawings. When evaluating a candidate ship, we give early attention to existing provisions on noise and vibration, deck-to-deck headroom heights (often low, in older ships), requirement for twin-propeller or single, and of course the primary appeal of the ship proportions.
